I use windows home server for my primary (i.e. on-site) home backup (I love WHS implementation of a simple multi-computer backup solution, it perfectly matches my needs). Don’t really use the home server for anything else, though.
Naturally, my biggest gripe has been the lack of support for 64-bit OS, which has forced me to use Vistas (not great) built-in-backup as a temporary stopgap on a few of my machines. Today, WHS Power Pack 1 was released, fixing this problem. Naturally, I am a very happy camper :-).
Reading through PP1’s release documentation revealed this wonderful little tidbit, under “known issues” (page 11):
- Windows Home Server may blue screen with a specific “THIRD_PARTY_FILE_SYSTEM_FAILURE (108)” error code. This blue screen is generated to verify a specific code path in the Drive Extender filter driver and doesn’t indicate a failure.
Seriously. A server product that bluescreens on purpose, doesn’t indicate a failure?
Wow. Only in Microsoftland…
